NBA: Kobe Bryant statue unveiled at accident scene


Munich/Cologne – On the second anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s death, a statue was unveiled at the crash site depicting the NBA superstar and his daughter who also died in an accident. Kobe and Gianna Bryant and seven other people crashed and died in a helicopter on January 26, 2020 in Calabasas, California.

Created by artist Dan Medina, the bronze statue stands on a mountainside, with Kobe and Gianna Bryant wearing basketball attire hugging and smiling. The names of all victims are recorded on a plaque on the base. The work of art should only be there temporarily, what will happen to it afterwards is not yet known.

US basketball star Bryant, five-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, died at the age of 41. Gianna was only 13 years old. According to the investigation, the pilot of the helicopter lost his orientation before the crash near Los Angeles after falling into thick clouds.
