It’s a knockout: Kao the Kangaroo returns in summer 2022 with a hard-hitting platformer on consoles and PC


Tate Multimedia today announced that more than 20 years after its debut, Kao the Kangaroo will make a triumphant return to platform action on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam this summer.

Kao – pronounced KO – will be known from the early new millennium, since he made his debut on the legendary Sega Dreamcast in 2000, all fans of 3D Plattformern. Now, two decades later, Kao is back in business and makes his way to his biggest adventure to his missing sister to find and solve the mystery of what happened to his long-lost father.

Players accompany Kao as he picks up his magical boxing gloves and travels the world to face off against famous combat masters who are under the influence of a disturbing dark force while exploring a colorful and vibrant world filled with activity and visual flair explore.

“It’s really exciting to finally be able to tell people that we’ll be releasing Kao the Kangaroo this summer,” said Kaja Borowko, Head of Studio. “Throughout development, it was important to us to ensure that Kao’s new adventure feels like both a tribute to his past works for existing fans and a fresh, contemporary platformer for newcomers. This isn’t a sequel, it’s a complete reboot, and we can’t wait for players young and old to get together to step into the role of Kao again this summer.

The original “Kao the Kangaroo” series sold more than 700,000 copies worldwide. A total of four games have been released for PC, PlayStation 2, PSP, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance and the aforementioned SEGA Dreamcast.
