Xavier Macaire switches to a Class40 monohull

After many years on the Figaro circuit, Xavier Macaire (Team SNEF) is entering Class40 with a new boat. On the program, the Route du Rhum 2022 and the Transat Jacques-Vabre 2023. After the Mini and Figaro circuits (2nd in the Solitaire in 2013, 3rd in 2015) and a recent 2nd place at the end of November in the Transat Jacques-Vabre aboard Ocean Fifty by Erwan Le Roux (Cohesion), Xavier Macaire switches to Class40, again with the support of the SNEF Group. “This new challenge includes the construction and development of a new boat, comments the skipper. You have to make choices that will have an impact on race performance. It’s very stimulating for me, who likes technicality as much as sailing on racing yachts. In addition, I integrate a very dynamic class where the boats are more and more efficient and the skippers more and more sharp, it is a challenge at my level”. Xavier Macaire’s choice fell on a Pogo 40 S4 designed by Guillaume Verdier, the construction of which began in September 2021 at Pogo Structures. The launch is scheduled for March. Two big objectives are on the sailor’s programme, the Route du Rhum 2022 (November 6) and the Transat Jacques-Vabre in 2023. “It takes time to know a boat perfectly, its secrets, its optimum settings, he observes. The objective is to condense this time as much as possible to be efficient at the start of the Route du Rhum. » Program 1000 milles des Sables (departure April 10)
