On the occasion of the launch of the Redmi K40 range, Xiaomi also officially presented its new true wireless headphones, the Redmi AirDots 3.

Quite logically, the headphones succeed the AirDots 2, launched in China in July 2020. The manufacturer’s new headphones also largely take up the design. We are dealing here with headphones, not equipped with rods like the AirPods, but with a tactile surface on the side, all in length, which is not unlike Sony’s approach with its WF-1000XM3.

In addition, the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots 3 are in-ear headphones. They are therefore equipped with silicone tips intended to be housed in the ear canal to ensure good passive isolation. However, it will be necessary to be satisfied with it, the headphones not having an active noise reduction function. Logical, since it is above all entry-level headphones.

Bluetooth aptX compatible headphones

However, where Xiaomi offers a good surprise with its headphones, it is at the level of codecs. The Chinese manufacturer is not satisfied with the most basic Bluetooth codecs such as SBC and AAC, but also offers compatibility with the aptX Adaptive. However, the aptX standards being backward compatible, this will also allow support for classic aptX and atpX HD. This is ultimately logical, since the headphones embed a Qualcomm QCC3040 chip to ensure the Bluetooth 5.2 connection.

On the autonomy side, Xiaomi announces up to seven hours of use on a single charge and a total of thirty hours using the case incorporating a 600 mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Redmi AirDots 3 will be available in China from March 4th. For now, no announcement has yet been made for France. Regarding the price, the headphones will be offered on Xiaomi’s home market at 199 yuan, or 25 euros excluding taxes.
