For Orange, 5G will be available from November 18. You will obviously need a compatible smartphone, a compatible package but also a compatible nearby antenna.
Orange had not let the doubt hang out, 5G had to be launched as soon as possible. The “as soon as possible” is therefore November 18, following the auctions that have taken place since September.
November 18 for Orange
Stéphane Richard, CEO of Orange, confirmed that “ on November 18, we will indeed be able to offer 5G where it is technically possible »From a journalist from BFM Business.
« At least initially, but which will be long, we will not build new antennas, we will keep the current antennas and we will pass them from 4G to 5G (…) It will certainly not reach large volumes this winter especially because the network will be very little developed. We must wait for the coverage to gain momentum in the coming months. So I think it’s more of a subject for the second half of 2021 (…) we don’t expect any enthusiasm by the end of the year but it is sure that it will be the big subject of 2021 »
Sharing the 5G network with Free Mobile is still a subject on the table, but Stéphane Richard remains cautious and takes the opportunity to explain that Orange customers will have priority over the Orange network. Free Mobile has yet to announce its 5G plan (s), while Orange has already done so.
Which Orange packages to take advantage of 5G?
Four packages are ready to welcome the first customers on the 5G network with an initial envelope of 70 GB of data per month up to… an unlimited envelope.
It is not easy to summarize the prices of these packages, because there is a whole reading grid depending on the choice to commit to 12 or 24 months, if you are a Livebox customer or not … In any case, if you are not yet a Livebox customer, here are the prices for these four packages:
- 70 GB at 39.99 euros (24.99 euros the first 12 months)
- 100 GB at 49.99 euros (34.99 euros the first 12 months)
- 150 GB at 64.99 euros (44.99 euros the first 12 months)
- Unlimited at 94.99 euros (79.99 euros for the first 12 months)
For customers of an Open pack (Livebox) with plan only and 12-month commitment:
- 70 GB at 29.99 euros (14.99 euros the first 12 months)
- 100 GB at 39.99 euros (24.99 euros the first 12 months)
- 150 GB at 49.99 euros (34.99 euros the first 12 months)
- Unlimited at 79.99 euros (64.99 euros the first 12 months)
You can also choose to commit to 24 months and you can subsidize an additional smartphone. These 5G packages include l’option multi-SIM, you will therefore have an additional SIM to use in a tablet or mobile router / hotspot. As for the 150 GB and unlimited plans, they have a third integrated SIM. The unlimited Orange package can be interesting to replace your fixed ADSL access, if optical fiber is not available and you have an Orange 4G / 5G antenna near you.
According to iGen, fairly well informed when it comes to the operator Orange, 5G could also be offered to Sosh customers. However, we will have to wait for confirmation, the arrival of 5G at Sosh could well be in the form of a monthly option to be added to its 4G package.
Which compatible smartphones?
5G is arriving late in France, one of the good news about this delay is most smartphones are already compatible. This is the case with all high-end Android smartphones, with the exception of a few specific models, as well as the latest iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. On Android, some mid-range smartphones are compatible with prices from 350 euros with the OnePlus North and the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G.
