The media 9to5Google shares a preview of the interface of Google Messsages with the Material You codes of Android 12 and we already appreciate the result.
During I / O 2021, Google presented Material You at the same time as Android 12. These are the new design guidelines issued by the American giant on the mobile OS and on its applications, in particular Google Messages.
The specialist site 9to5Google was able to dig into the APK code of the messaging app and found evidence that Google Messages is preparing to take advantage of a new Material You interface. Even better, the medium is able to share screenshots, providing a preview of what to expect.
Material You and the colors
As a reminder, the principle of Material You is to provide a highly customizable user experience and notably proposes to change the accent colors of Android 12 according to the dominant color of the wallpaper that we choose on the smartphone.
This feature will only be available to the Pixel at first and will be available from beta 2 of Android 12. However, 9to5Google has managed to force it to be activated manually.
On Google Messages, it’s already a success
In the screenshots, we can see that the search bar at the top of the screen and the drop-down menu from the three-dot icon adopt color discreetly on the new interface. The big button “Start a discussion” at the bottom right is entitled to a more marked, darker shade, which, at the same time, makes the text stand out more.
It’s silly and it really comes down to the details, but seeing these elements of interactions in Google Messages change colors depending on the wallpaper chosen is already something very pleasant, almost calming.
Google Messages really harmonizes with the system interface, which reinforces the pleasant and fluid aspect of the application. There’s a good chance this preview won’t match up with the final design we’ll find out in due course. But it’s already a very good start.
