This smartphone concept explores another avenue for enriching the user experience: a back whose color automatically changes from dark blue to light gray depending on a particular interaction.
Concretely, this technology allows the OnePlus 8T Concept to have a different color when it receives a call.
Another feature: you can point the smartphone at someone and ask them to analyze their breathing.
The color of the smartphone will change synchronously with the inhales and exhales of the individual.
Millimeter waves and chemistry
This second option is made possible by a millimeter wave sensor openly inspired by 5G technologies. OnePlus explains that “mmWave technology […] is a non-contact radar technology, the mmWave radar module transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves. When receiving electromagnetic waves, digital signal processing (DSP) and processor perform signal and information processing, enabling the device to perceive, capture, locate and track objects ».
To change color, the OnePlus 8T Concept is draped in a layer of glass containing metal oxide. The rest is chemistry: the metal ions contained in this oxide have their valence state vary according to certain voltages and these modifications affect the color of the glass.
