If you still have doubts, the Snapdragon 888 may well be the darling of high-end smartphones in 2021. Qualcomm has confirmed that its new spearhead is on the menu on more than 120 mobiles under development.
The information comes directly from the upper echelons of Qualcomm: the Snapdragon 888 will be very well positioned in the market. According to the president of Qualcomm China, Meng Pu, whose words are relayed by Tech Agent on Twitter, the new high-end SoC of the American giant is current on more than 120 smartphones under development.
Mathematically, the chip should therefore be the most common on the flagships of the different manufacturers. A situation which is not really surprising whereas the competition of MediaTek still deserves to be strengthened on the high end, and this in spite of some launches to watch. In this regard, Samsung’s offer is promising, with the Exynos 2100 at the head of the column. It is found in particular on the Galaxy S21 and its different versions.
120 smartphones in development, but how many will hit the market?
As pointed out Android Headlines, if the announcement of the boss of Qualcomm China mentions 120 smartphones in development, we do not know how many will ultimately arrive on the market. A downside that does not detract from the fact that the Snapdragon 888 will be at the helm of a majority of premium smartphones in 2021, especially as others will enter development later in the year.
Qualcomm’s SoC is also already featured in some of the bestsellers from the start of the year. The US versions of the Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra are equipped with it. Across the Atlantic, it will also most certainly be found on board the future Galaxy S21 FE, and Galaxy Z Fold 3 within a few months.
Meng Pu, Chairman of Qualcomm China says that, at present there are more than 120 5G smartphones using Snapdragon 888 SoC are being designed. This seems there are lot more flagship devices to launch in future. 👀#snapdragon888 #Snapdragon pic.twitter.com/wzYFTuLnVx

Apart from Samsung, Xiaomi has already presented its Mi 11 which will also be equipped with the Snapdragon 888. Its Ultra and Pro variants should follow the same path, just like the future Mi MIX. More powerful than the Exynos 2100 (which Samsung could provide to Oppo for certain models), the Snapdragon 888 would finally be used by OnePlus to power its next OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, expected in March. Other brands like Sony, Motorola or Asus should also be interested in the Qualcomm chip in the coming months.
