According to information from the Korean site ETNews, Samsung would like to integrate a selfie camera hidden behind the screen for its future Galaxy Z Fold 3.
In recent months, manufacturers have been engaged in a battle to be among the first to market a smartphone equipped with a camera for selfies hidden behind the screen.
If ZTE was finally the first to draw with its ZTE Axon 20 5G, Xiaomi and Oppo have for their part already made technical demonstrations. On paper, it is therefore between Chinese manufacturers that the battle seems to be fought. However, the world’s number 1 smartphone, Samsung, has not said its last word.
It has long been known that Samsung is working on a design called « New Infinity », with an invisible camera on the front. For a year, rumors have been increasing about the release of such a smartphone. In February, some evoked a camera behind the screen for the Galaxy Z Fold 2, even if it was not. This Thursday is the Korean site ETNews who shared Samsung’s latest advances in the field.
A development divided between several divisions of Samsung
According to the site specializing in new technologies, Samsung would seek to integrate a camera hidden behind the screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the manufacturer’s next foldable tablet. “Samsung has decided to use this technology for its next foldable smartphone and has started to work on developing the necessary technologies”, thus indicates the Korean media.
Two divisions of Samsung would thus be up to the task, Samsung Display for the screens and Samsung Electronics System for the photo sensor. In order to avoid shots that are too dark, as we have seen on some prototypes, Samsung has also decided to space the pixels on the screen, reducing its display density, so that the sensor is less hampered and let the light reach it more easily.
As a reminder, the selfie camera of the Galaxy Z Fold range has already evolved a lot since the first model, launched a year and a half ago. On it, it was integrated into a large notch, positioned at the top right of the screen. On the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Samsung has managed to miniaturize it by integrating it into a punch. With the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the manufacturer could thus make it completely disappear behind the foldable Oled screen.
For now, it is still unclear when Samsung intends to officially present its Galaxy Z Fold 3. According to ETNews, the smartphone could be presented during the third quarter of next year.
