For the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung would have sealed the two smartphones. A first for the brand’s foldable phones.

In the foldable screen smartphone business, there is Samsung, and there are others. It must be said that for two years, the Korean manufacturer has put the package on the development of this type of product with nothing less than three models already launched. The firm should even accelerate this summer with the presentation of two new models, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3.

In addition to the expected iterative novelties – more power, better cameras, improved autonomy – the two smartphones could also correct one of the biggest problems of the company’s previous foldable models. They would finally provide a seal to the manufacturer’s folding smartphones. The information comes to us from the columns of the Sam Mobile site, specializing in the news of the Korean brand: “The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 2 [NDLR : ou Galaxy Z Flip 3] will benefit from an IP waterproof certification ”.

A still unknown waterproof rating

However, we do not know what the level of this sealing will be. As a reminder, the IP protection index is generally followed by two digits: the first indicates resistance to dust while the second indicates resistance to water. The higher the second number, the more the device will be able to withstand high pressures in the water, with a number 8 indicating that the device can be submerged more than a meter deep for an hour. For example, an IP54 rating will limit the resistance to water splashes only. There is therefore no indication that smartphones will be completely waterproof and resistant to immersion in a swimming pool or sink filled with water.

Still, adding a waterproofing certification is a real challenge for Samsung. Granted, this is the case with most of its high-end smartphones – the Galaxy S21s are IP68 certified – but the very essence of foldable smartphones and their hinge makes the task particularly complex. It must be said that foldable smartphones integrate mechanical parts and that the very first Galaxy Fold was already struggling to resist dust. Samsung has finally integrated a brush system for its second model. For the third version, it is still unknown what will be the integrated system to protect the hinge.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 should be presented during the summer, along with the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Both smartphones will have a lot to do, since Huawei could also accelerate in the field of folding smartphones with nothing. less than three models expected during the second half of the year, at affordable prices.
