Samsung is developing an update to its photo application to allow use of Pro mode even on the telephoto camera.
On smartphones, the mode « pro », also known as mode « manuel » allows you to fine-tune certain photo settings. This is the case, for example, with shutter speed, sensitivity or white balance. However, on telephones, manual modes are still very often limited compared to what is found on real photo cameras.
This is particularly the case with Samsung, which reserves the pro mode of its high-end smartphones to the single main wide-angle module. It is therefore impossible to use the device with a telephoto lens. Logical, since from a hardware point of view, these are three separate cameras. However, Samsung lifted the restriction on the ultra-wide-angle module this year with the Galaxy S21 range, without touching the telephoto yet. This will change, however, as the Sam Mobile site spotted.
An update in development at Samsung
The site specializing in the news of the Korean manufacturer has indeed noticed, on the forums of Samsung, the post of one of the employees of the manufacturer “In charge of cameras”. There he indicates that the manufacturer is considering opening up pro mode further so that it can also be used on the telephoto camera: “We are considering opening pro telephoto mode as soon as possible, but please understand that this will take some time due to various restrictions.”.
Concretely, this means that it will soon be possible to fine-tune the settings of its shooting through the pro mode of Samsung smartphones, including using the optical zoom. However, it is not known whether this function will also be offered with intermediate zoom levels or with hybrid zoom, these functions being software. This will allow users to manually choose the sensitivity, shutter speed, white balance or autofocus value of captured photos.
The Pro mode of the photo application being reserved for high-end Samsung smartphones, it should not however be found on all of the manufacturer’s devices, but only on the most premium models. Sam Mobile cites the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy A72, and the foldable models Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 2, among others.
