The Motorola Edge is currently the top of the basket for the American manufacturer, but rest assured, it does not cost as much as the foldable smartphone RAZR. It is even much more affordable today, going from 599 to only 349 euros on Cdiscount.
With its Motorola Edge, the Illinois firm is definitely moving away from the old models that hosted Moto Mods to offer a high-end smartphone that is closer to what the competition in the premium segment is currently doing, but for a price more affordable. We find it right now almost half the price.
The Motorola Edge at a glance
- An OLED screen refreshed at 90 Hz
- Adding virtual triggers to the game
- The good performance of the Snapdragon 765
Instead of 599 euros at its launch, the 5G compatible Motorla Edge (with 128 GB of storage) is now available on sale at only 349 euros on Cdiscount.
It is also available for 25 euros less at Amazon, but through a third-party seller.
To learn more about the Motorola Edge
The Motorola Edge offers a decidedly more modern design than its predecessors. Its 6.7-inch 90 Hz OLED screen occupies a large part of the front surface, the edges are curved on the sides and there is obviously a punch, at the top left, in order to conceal the selfie camera. If the panel is well made, with good maximum brightness and beautiful contrasts, we nevertheless regret a rather capricious fingerprint sensor under the screen.
It is then powered by the Snapdragon 765 (5G compatible) with 6 GB of RAM. This is a configuration that many high-end smartphones of 2020 have chosen instead of the expensive S865 to reduce the bill, like the Google Pixel 5 for example. Performance is great, even with greedy 3D games like Fortnite. To play in good conditions, Motorola also offers the possibility of adding (software) triggers on the edge of the screen (R2 / L2 way) and it is very practical!
As for the photo, we note a great versatility with its triple sensor 64 + 16 + 8 megapixels (+ ToF) as well as a good quality of the shots, but only when the right light conditions are met. Especially since the night mode makes almost no change compared to the automatic mode … It makes up for it with a great autonomy thanks to its 4,500 mAh battery, but this is counterbalanced with a wired charging is quite slow: count almost 3 hours to get it from 0 to 100%.
