Nothing escapes Lidl or, one could also say, no actor escapes the connected home. The German discount distribution giant recently presented a hub for the smart home as well as a whole range of products to go with it. A first foot at a low price in a rapidly expanding universe.

A desired less expensive and easy solution

Baptized Lidl Smart Home, this home automation solution is based on the Zigbee 3.0 protocol, one of the most widespread. This assures consumers of compatibility with many other products. Both the box and the peripherals are sold under the SilverCrest brand. Lidl would have called on the Chinese group Tuya to design its products.

Lidl does not just market a box and a few sensors for door openings or movements. Its Smart Home also consists of connected bulbs, smart sockets, ceiling light and even an LED light garland or even an LED strip to attach wherever you want.

And the prices are as low as you might expect. In Belgium, because we could not find the price list for France, the Livarno Lux starter kit including the hub, 3 connected white LED bulbs and a remote control is displayed at 47.99 euros (56.99 euros with bulbs white + RGB). Bulbs, detectors and connected sockets start at 9.99 euros. The home automation gateway sold alone is 19.99 euros.

Control by smartphone, voice or remote control

To manage everything, you have to use the Lidl Home application (available on Android and iOS). It will allow you to control the lighting (even change the color) as your household appliances via connected sockets. And you can even do it by voice with the Google Assistant which is supported.

The supermarket chain boasts ” easy installation and use »And its great compatibility with the systems of other Zigbee platforms. SilverCrest connected accessories can thus be used with Philips Hue and Osram Lightify bulbs, whether with the Hub Lidl or any other Zigbee-compatible gateway. Lidl Home products are starting to appear in several European countries where the chain is established ( Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Portugal, Great Britain, etc.).
