Once very limited in terms of storage, smartphones now all have at least 128 GB of internal memory. A big advantage which was accompanied by a radical change in our habits: from now on, it is no longer necessary to delete our photos. With a certain drawback: the photo gallery is now packed.
How to sort photos on smartphone and how to save the most valuable ones? Here are some tips applied to the recent Samsung Galaxy S range.
How to find old photos and sort them?
On its Gallery application, Samsung offers several ways to sort photos and find them easily.
The first thing to know is that it is possible to easily find your photos according to the date. To do this, you have to use the little scroll arrow that appears when you browse the gallery. By moving it up or down, a timeline with years and dates will appear on the right side. You can then easily find what happened in August 2017.
If you have activated the “location tags” option in the camera, the gallery is then able to sort the photos by places visited. In the gallery, click on the magnifying glass icon and then type a place name. The search is smart and also works offline. You can search for city names (even the smallest) as well as for famous tourist places (geolocation knows when you have been to visit the Eiffel Tower).
Finally, this search engine goes much further than places and dates. He is able to recognize the subjects and objects present in the photos. You can for example also search your best photos of pizzas, cats, mushrooms, bikes or forests or by typing the eponymous terms in the search engine. Its precision is impressive.
How to stop seeing photos from WhatsApp or Messenger on your Galaxy smartphone?
This is probably the question we ask ourselves the most: how to remove photos sent via Whatsapp, Messenger or any other messaging application from your photo gallery? There is a very simple solution in Samsung’s Gallery app.
In the Gallery, go to the Album tab. Here, the photos are automatically sorted by their application or service origin. The Gallery application indeed groups together in albums photos from Whatsapp, Twitter, SMS application, Instagram and those that come directly from the camera of your smartphone. Here you can view, delete, or sort photos from Whatsapp.
In this album tab, click on the 3 dots located at the top right of the Gallery application, then on “Hide or display an album”. All you have to do is check or uncheck the albums, the photos will no longer appear in the main “Photos” tab of the gallery.
What are the best apps for storing photos online?
There are several ways to save your photos online, in a cloud service.
The easiest way is undoubtedly to go through the integrated solution on Samsung smartphones: OneDrive. Stored on Microsoft’s servers, photos are no longer at risk of disappearing due to theft or due to a hardware defect.
Once connected to your OneDrive account, the Samsung Gallery app will automatically take care of transferring them to the Microsoft app. By default, OneDrive includes 5 GB of storage space (15 if you’ve used Samsung Cloud before), but it is possible to increase the storage space up to 1 TB by taking out a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Other photo storage services may also be recommended. The most obvious is undoubtedly Google Photos. While the storage space will soon be limited to 15 GB, it is hands down one of the best online photo storage apps.
Not only is the synchronization with the photo gallery automatic, but the interface is also particularly practical. Its best feature is undoubtedly its search engine. Even more advanced than that of the Samsung gallery, it is able to recognize a lot of things in photos: places, dates, people, events… The magic works very effectively. Grouped in this way, the photos can then be viewed on any computer, tablet or smartphone, without the need to manually transfer any snapshot.
Another very effective function, Google Photos allows you to create albums, then share them with loved ones, including those who are largely absent from social networks. They will access your gallery by simply sending an email or text from their computer or smartphone.
If you don’t want to store your photos with Microsoft and Google, be aware that subscribers of Prime Photos, from Amazon, have access to an unlimited photo storage service. Unlike Google Photos, Prime Photos completely preserves the quality and definition of the images. Amazon provides a very easy-to-use smartphone application (iOS and Android), as well as synchronization software for Windows PCs only.
