When we buy a new game on Xbox, we can sometimes be disappointed with the quality of the title or realize that it does not meet our expectations. In these cases, or worse, if the game is riddled with bugs or is not performing well on the console, you may want to get a refund for your purchase. Here is everything you need to know about these steps.
Disc games purchased on the Internet: the right of withdrawal prevails
If you bought your game in physical format, that is to say in boxed version with its installation disc, and it is an order on the Internet, then it is better to use the right of withdrawal .
You have 14 days to change your mind. It’s the right to retract. This period concerns cases of purchase by internet, by telephone or by post (sale by means of printed catalogs received by La Poste) or by fax. If you exercise this right, the seller must reimburse you for the goods or the service ordered.
You do not need to justify this return, and the merchant must accept your refund request. This is the best course of action if you ordered over the Internet less than 14 days ago.
Get a refund for an Xbox Store purchase
We can still read several criteria used by Microsoft to determine the eligibility of a redemption such as the time elapsed since the release or the time spent on the game. It is hard to imagine the firm agreeing to reimburse a game that you have already succeeded. to complete for example, even if you completed it soon after the game was released.
Microsoft has implemented an assisted process for refund requests. You have to go to the dedicated page of the Xbox Store to start the procedure. The site will then list the purchases that are eligible for a refund request. If certain conditions are problematic, the site will also notify you with a pictogram.
Once the purchase is selected, Microsoft will ask you for the reason for your request. This is where you can indicate that it is for example an accidental purchase, or that the purchased content does not work. A second option allows you to specify the problem, for example that “performance is poor“. A third field allows additional details to be given.
Once the request is submitted, it will be subject to verification by Microsoft for up to 72 hours. If the company validates the request, you will be refunded and the game will logically be removed from your Xbox account.
If you are unable to send your request
It is possible that the system set up by Microsoft cannot find your order, or that you cannot complete the form offered. In that case, you have to fill out another form by giving as much information as possible, and necessarily the order number used to purchase the game.
Cancel a pre-order from the Xbox Store
In the case of a pre-order while the game has not yet been released, you have the option at any time to cancel this pre-order. You shouldn’t be charged. Here’s the procedure to follow :
- View your order history
- Find the pre-ordered game
- Select the option “Cancel the article”
If the option does not appear or does not work, it may be because Microsoft has already billed you near the release of the game. In this case, it is no longer a pre-order. and we must start with the reimbursement procedure detailed above for games in digital version.
