The Google Play Store, previously known as Android Market, is one of the focal points of Android as it provides access to millions of games and applications. Although this is not the only way to fill your phone (there are several other alternative application stores), it is often the easiest, but also the most secure.

Please note that this manipulation concerns smartphones that are already certified by Google. Otherwise (on a Huawei P40 Pro for example), it is necessary to install Google Play Services, which is much more complicated knowing that access to the system partition (normally locked in read-only) is necessary.

Where to find the Google Play Store for smartphones
On the majority of Android smartphones sold in France, the Google Play Store is already installed natively and updates automatically. The deployment is however gradual and it is therefore possible that you do not have the latest version. To check this, launch the app, open the hamburger menu by swiping your finger from the left edge of the screen to the right, then head to the app’s settings. At the very bottom you will see a box called “Play Store Version” showing the current version number.

Install the Google Play Store on a smartphone
To install the Google Play Store, it is imperative that your smartphone has Google Play Services. On a Xiaomi smartphone for example, you can install the whole thing through a dedicated package. The manipulation is explained in another tutorial.

Install the Google Play Store on Android TV
If you want to install the Google Play Store on an Android TV device (connected TV, Android box, etc.), it is important to note that the file is not the same. For this you will need to download the appropriate file, including here is the latest version available to date in APK format:
