Honor took advantage of CES to announce two new products: first, a new version of its MagicBook Pro 16, but also a new Honor Band 6 bracelet. They should both arrive on the market at a rather attractive price.
We tested it a few months ago, Honor’s MagicBook Pro is a convincing 16.1-inch laptop in more ways than one. On the occasion of CES 2021, Honor announces a new version. On the menu, no major aesthetic or technical upheaval: we find the device we know, but with different components inside. With this new variant of the device, Honor is indeed seeking to offer an Intel configuration as an alternative to the original model, which was for its part equipped with a processor AMD Ryzen 5 4600H.
Still, by wanting to maintain its MagicBook at an attractive price, Honor misses an opportunity to strike a big blow: it will indeed be content with an old generation Intel processor supported by a dedicated GPU which is not more very first freshness.
Intel “Comet Lake-U” and Nvidia GeForce MX at the controls
Clearly, Honor relies on an Intel Core i5-10210U processor (4 cores / 8 threads clocked between 1.60 and 4.20 GHz) from the Comet Lake-U generation, supported by 16 GB of RAM and a dedicated Nvidia GPU GeForce MX350 (launched at the start of 2020, but since replaced by the MX450, a little faster). In this case, the Nvidia GPU chip is nevertheless useful to compensate for the lack of a truly efficient integrated GPU on the Intel processor.
There is also a 512 GB SSD (most likely M.2) and a 56 Wh battery. Honor speaks of an autonomy of up to 11:30 am. As a reminder, the AMD version of the device was limited to just over 6 hours according to our observations. Finally, note the presence of a 16.1-inch Full HD panel in 16: 9 format and capable of covering 100% of the sRGB color space. Logically, it will be more or less the same slab as on the model we tested in October.
This “new” MagicBook Pro should also be marketed under the 1000 euros mark.
A new Honor Band bracelet as a bonus
Along with its MagicBook Pro under Intel chip, Honor has announced a new iteration of its Honor Band connected bracelet. This Honor Band 6 has an autonomy of two weeks according to the manufacturer, with water resistance (5 ATM). There is a 1.46-inch AMOLED screen (194 x 364 pixels for 282 ppi) and a host of functions: monitoring SpO2, sleep, heart rate, menstrual cycles or stress. Honor finally mentions 10 exercise modes and automatic detection for 6 types of activity.
For swimming, the Honor Band 6 will finally be able to detect if your swimming is effective. It will be sold for around $ 35 (probably around forty euros in France).
Remember that Honor has recently left the fold of Huawei to gain independence. The group now belongs to a consortium made up of around 40 Chinese companies.
