SFR is rapidly deploying its 5G network. From December, more than 120 municipalities will benefit from the new mobile network.
5G is finally here! After years of discussions and technical developments, the new mobile network is finally available in France. For its part, SFR has already started to deploy its network in Nice, but this is only the first step in a deployment plan which should quickly accelerate.
5G in 120 municipalities in 2020
The operator in the red square has already drawn its offers, but does not intend to stop there. From December 2020, more than 120 municipalities in which the 5G network will be deployed. Just like Orange, SFR uses language elements that aim to discredit the network of its competitors (and in particular Free’s network potential) by promising “real 5G”, based on the new 3.5 GHz bands and not only on the refarming of frequencies already used in 4G.
SFR, however, does not specify the coverage rate of the municipalities cited, the number of branches not having been revealed. This will require waiting for the ANFR observatory in January 2020 to see how many sites have been activated.
The agglomerations of Bordeaux, Marseille Aix en Provence, Montpellier, Nantes, Nice and Paris are concerned. However, some municipalities wanted to delay the commercial opening of 5G. This is the case for example in Paris, which requires the holding of a citizens’ conference before the switching on of the networks in order to establish a “mobile telephony charter” and so “reduce exposure to electromagnetic waves ».
