First Compact Disc player comes out

On October 1, 1982, the first commercial Compact Disc player, the Sony CDP-101, was released in Japan. The device went on sale at a price of 168,000 yen, about € 1,428 from now. The exclusive launch in Japan occurred because Philips, Sony’s partner in developing the format, was not able to have its version of the player ready by that date. In November 1982, Philips released the Philips CD100 with some parts of the Sony player. March 1983 saw the worldwide launch of the CD player agreed by Philips and Sony.
