Blackmagic has released a “Pro” version of its Pocket Cinema 6K camera. It offers functions designed for expert or semi-professional use, including mechanical ND filters, a swivel screen and an optional viewfinder.
In August 2019, Blackmagic presented a rather attractive case for expert or semi-professional videographers, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K. A year and a half later, the Australian manufacturer decided to offer an improved version of its case and launched the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro.
As its name suggests, this new camera takes the broad lines of the previous model, but is intended even more for professional use. We will thus find a sensor allowing the capture of video sequences in 6K (6144 x 3456 pixels) with a Super 35 format of 24 x 14 mm, a little smaller than the APS-C format. The box also benefits from a rise in sensitivity up to 25,600 ISO and a video rate of 60 images per second. On the video sampling side, the box even allows up to a 12-bit Blackmagic RAW format on all definitions. Up to 4K definition, the Apple ProRes is also available, in 4: 2: 2 10-bit.
Mechanical ND filters, optional Oled viewfinder and swivel screen
Regarding the case itself, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro benefits from a five-inch swivel and touchscreen LCD screen. This one is able to go up to a brightness of 1500 cd / m² and benefits from an HDR display. It also has an optional Oled electronic viewfinder, 1280 x 960 pixels, while the 2019 model only allowed aiming with the LCD screen. For cases of too strong light, the box also includes ND filters to reduce exposure without affecting the aperture or other shooting parameters. Three motorized ND filters are integrated, allowing the brightness to be changed by 2, 4 or 6 stops.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is compatible with the EF mount and therefore allows the use of lenses designed for Canon bodies.
The box will be marketed in France at a price of 2135 euros. This is a lower price than the launch price of the classic Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K, initially announced at 2255 euros, although it is now found at 1995 euros. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is already available for pre-order at select retailers and will be available sometime next week.
