Google announced on Monday the arrival of a new streaming service on its Nest speakers. Apple Music will now be offered to users of Google speakers or compatible with Google Home.
Little by little, Apple is opening up its ecosystem to other service providers. While the manufacturer recently announced the possibility of enjoying the Pandora streaming service on its HomePods and HomePod Mini, its own Apple Music service is in turn opening up to other speakers.
As reported by Reuters, Apple Music can now be accessed directly on connected Google speakers, whether it is Google Home, Nest Audio or Nest Mini. Google’s connected displays, like the Nest Hub or the Nest Hub Max, are also compatible with Apple Music, as are third-party speakers that are compatible with Google Home.
This is not the first time that Apple Music has been offered on speakers competing with Apple’s HomePod. Since 2018, subscribers to the music streaming service can indeed enjoy it on their speakers compatible with the Amazon Alexa service, such as the Amazon Echo speakers.
Amazon Music is still missing
This integration of Apple Music into Google’s speakers allows the Mountain View firm to considerably expand the number of music streaming applications offered. In addition to Apple Music, Nest speakers are also compatible with YouTube Music, Spotify, Deezer, or TuneIn Radio. However, the services Tidal, Qobuz or Google’s main competitor in connected speakers are missing: Amazon Music.
The deployment of Apple Music on Google speakers began on Monday in several countries, including France. It will nevertheless be done gradually. To select Apple Music as the default music streaming platform for speakers, simply go to the Google Home app on your smartphone, then select “Multimedia content”, then “Music”.
