To avoid playing a PS4 game on PS5 while you have both versions, Sony will send you a notification to make sure you are doing so on purpose.

The Japanese manufacturer has finally found a way to put an end to the discontent of those who were notably unable to take advantage of Call of Duty : Black Ops Cold War in PS5 version on their new console while he had the collector’s edition allowing to play on PS4 then PS5. They could not then take full advantage of the promised graphic prowess.

Until now, you had to check in the settings of the download window which version of the game you were downloading.
A free migration at the goodwill of publishers
Unlike the Smart Delivery Xbox Series X / S, which Phil Spencer has insisted a lot on with publishers to fight against paid migration to the new generation, which allows an Xbox One title to be ported and upgraded for free to the next generation, PlayStation has let each publisher decide whether or not to upgrade their PS4 titles to PS5 for free.
Some titles like Assassin’s Creed Valahalla, Marvel’s Avengers, Cyberpunk 2077 see Planet Coaster have played the game by offering a free migration. Others like NBA 2K21 or Call of Duty have put on sale more expensive editions with both versions.
Electronic Arts has also decided to migrate some of its titles for free (FIFA 21, Madden 21, etc.) to all new generation consoles.
