an even smarter robot vacuum cleaner that takes height

On the occasion of CES 2021, Roborock unveiled its new robot vacuum cleaner. The S7 takes the fundamentals of the Chinese brand with a device that sucks up dirt and washes, and adds even more AI to adapt to all situations.

The robot vacuum cleaner market is doing better and better and its players are full of ideas to make their products ever smarter and more efficient. Roborock is one of the most active in the sector and spares no effort to offer ever more efficient products.

On the occasion of CES 2021, the Chinese brand belonging to Xiaomi unveiled the Roborock S7. Always effective in vacuuming, it once again doubles its program of a mop to wash after having vacuumed up all the dirt. But Roborock made it even more efficient to be even easier to use.

A more efficient brush

The main suction brush has been redesigned, with a new design that grabs less hair, hugs surfaces better, detects and adapts to rugs.

The suction power of the new rubber brush is intended to be more durable. It keeps its suction power of 2500 Pa as on the Roborock S6 MaxV and a 5200 mAh battery. This allows the S7 to offer an autonomy of up to 3 hours of continuous cleaning without the mop (a little less than 6 hours to fully recharge).

The robot vacuum cleaner still has two containers: one for 300 ml water (capacity of about 200 m²) and another for dust, a little larger than on previous models (470 ml – about 300 m² cleaned ).

A robot vacuum cleaner that lifts itself up

The Roborock S7 keeps the principle of a double cleaning with the addition of the mop, but this one sees its possibilities reinforced.

The mop is now vibrating and spins up to 3000 rpm to remove deeply encrusted dirt on various surfaces. On the app, the Roborock S7 will offer three cleaning intensities with the mop (1650 revolutions, 2300 or 3000 revolutions per minute).

A new, more thorough cleaning mode will also allow the sonic vibration mop to be mopped twice in the same spot for a more thorough cleaning. The cleaning pressure is practically doubled compared to the best Roborock models available. But the Chinese firm stresses that the water flow is not greater with this technology than compared to the Roborock S6 MaxV and S5 Max.

But the great novelty of the Roborock S7 is its ability to raise the mop when approaching an obstacle that does not need to be moistened or a surface that does not need to be washed. For this, the robot vacuum cleaner uses an improved surface detection system, still with its sensors. There is now virtually no need to define areas that are prohibited for washing.

The S7 will automatically rise when approaching a slightly delicate carpet (up to 5 mm thick). If the carpet is a little bushy, the robot vacuum cleaner may have a little more trouble getting over it and you will probably have to opt for zone detection instead. But vacuuming dust and cleaning a carpet can also be done in intensive mode.

The heightening can also be useful in other circumstances. And especially when the robot returns to its load. Giving it a little height can thus avoid leaving the damp mop in contact with the ground at the risk of damaging it. Because Roborock decided, this time, to no longer integrate the plastic mat that accompanied the charging base and protected the floor.

Additional options

In terms of options, the S7 also improves its possibilities. He still uses the same app (iOS and Android) to manage cleaning, map up to four floors, schedule cleaning times, configure cleaning preferences and intensity, define not-to-go areas. He adds some new welcome functions to customize his cleaning a little more.

The app always lets you know where the robot vacuum cleaner has sucked and mopped. You can even follow him in real time during his session. He can now better map the areas where he has identified a carpet using ultrasound and it shows on the app. It’s up to you to decide whether to include it in its cleaning or to avoid it.

The S7 is also compatible with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant and can respond to voice commands. You can also add it to Siri Shortcuts to launch it.

The Roborock S7 will be available in Q2 2021 for 549 euros. At first, it will only be available in white. A black model, as well as a matching dump box for dust will arrive later. The bin can be compatible with the white S7, but not with the Roborock S5 Max or S6 MaxV.
