On the occasion of CES 2021, Acer unveiled its new products. And among them, a new ultraportable convertible. The Chromebook Spin 514 continues to trust chrome OS for its use. And for the first time, it’s relying on AMD Ryzen Mobile processors and AMD Radeon graphics cards to deliver even more power.
Clearly, times are hard for Intel which is being neglected on all sides. After Apple and others, around Acer prefers AMD for its new Chromebooks.
The AMD card for power and smoothness
On the occasion of CES 2021, the brand presented its new model, the Chromebook Spin 514. It is the very first Chromebook from Acer to embed the latest AMD Ryzen 3000 C series mobile processor. It promises “responsiveness and high performance»To work, watch video or even do advanced productivity (video editing and coding in particular). Models will offer Ryzen 7 3700C or Ryzen 5 3500C quad-core processors with 16GB of DDR4 DRAM memory.
But it is above all in terms of quick start-up time and autonomy that the user should be satisfied. Everything should be done faster on the Chromebook Spin 514 which will obviously run on Chrome OS: launch several applications downloaded from the Play Store or others, use resource-intensive software or download content, everything will be smoother and faster.
To make it even more attractive, Acer has also equipped its Chromebook with graphics cards from AMD, the Radeon Vega or RX Vega, for optimized performance. It comes with 256 GB of storage.
An elegant design and a format easy to carry everywhere
The Chromebook Spin 514 uses the recipe of the range: an ultraportable format (17.35 mm thick and 1.55 kg) in an elegant frame in anodized and sandblasted aluminum, with a metal outline and reinforced impact resistance in all kinds (it can withstand a fall over one meter high and a pressure of 60 kg).
The device has a 360 ° hinge that switches its 14-inch Full HD IPS screen to touchscreen mode. The edges have been refined (6.1 mm). The panel has received a Gorilla Glass treatment to be more resistant to scratches, especially in tablet configuration. Two stereo speakers are integrated as well as two microphones capable of detecting the origin of noise to improve audio quality, especially in video calls with the HD webcam or in recording. For autonomy, Acer announces ten hours.
On the connectivity side, there are two USB-Type C ports that support USB 3.2 gen 1 up to 5 Gb / s and DisplayPort. They are accompanied by two USB 3.2 ports, a microSD card reader and an HDMI port will also be offered on certain models. The wireless connection supports dual-band Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0.
The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 will go on sale in March 2021 at a price of 529 euros. It will be available in silver, steel gray or green.
