Apple easily dominates the connected watch market. The last of the brand were presented at the end of December: the Watch Series 6 and Watch SE. However, the apple would like to complete its catalog by offering a more resistant product.

According to information from Bloomberg, an Apple Watch benefiting from a more resistant case would be in the pipes. The idea would thus be to better address the needs of sportsmen and women exposed to falls – athletics, hiking, extreme sports, etc.

A rubber surface

As Bloomberg reminds us, Apple’s connected watches already have sporting DNA with very advanced activity tracking and water resistance up to 50 meters deep. The robust model that Apple would think of would above all be intended to be a more advanced alternative.

The brand would indeed wrap the case of this device with a layer of rubber so that the watch withstands the environments that would have damaged the aluminum, titanium and stainless steel finishes existing today.

2021, 2022, later or never?

Bloomberg sources cite a release in late 2021 or 2022 at the earliest. It is also not impossible that Apple simply abandons the project if no track is satisfactory.

Finally, remember that Apple takes 40% of the market share in the connected watch sector in 2020 according to Counterpoint.
