Here is the Vivo X51 freshly made official in France. This smartphone not only marks the arrival of its manufacturer on the French and European market, but is also distinguished by the integration of a gimbal system for perfectly stabilized videos.
We have been waiting for Vivo to arrive in France for a while. As planned, a press event was held today (Tuesday, October 20) to unveil the products launched by the brand for the occasion. Among them, the Vivo X51 5G smartphone is the most prominent.
It must be said that this is the flagship announcement of the manufacturer.
A miniaturized gimbal system
This Vivo X51 – the 5G mention is not essential since there is only this version – is very inspired by the X50 Pro and X50 Pro + models launched in China earlier this year. The design is also very similar and the phone embeds the same gimbal technology to stabilize your videos more effectively than a traditional OIS system if we are to believe the brand.
As a reminder, the term “gimbal” designates a mechanical suspension which stabilizes the camera for fluid movements in video. We thus come across many professional stabilizers in the film industry, but the general public also benefits from it through smartphone booms.
The whole challenge for Vivo was to integrate a relatively similar solution into a smartphone photo module.
The manufacturer had thus presented the Vivo Apex 2020, a smartphone concept packed with technologies, but which was not intended for commercialization. This phone already took advantage of this famous gimbal before we found this innovation on the X50 Pro and then today on the Vivo X51. The manufacturer thus prides itself on making its advanced stabilization system stand on only 4.5 mm thick for a module that only protrudes very slightly in relief.
Vivo uses a frame mechanically stabilized by a set of gyroscopes and magnetic fields. In addition, the gimbal benefits from a refresh rate of 120 Hz: this means that it updates its position 120 times per second.
The promise is therefore quite clear: ultra stabilized videos, regardless of the shooting conditions.
Beyond that, here’s how the four cameras on the back look:
- 48 megapixel Sony IMX598 (designed for Vivo) main sensor with gimbal + OIS system (f / 1.6);
- 13-megapixel x2 telephoto lens used in particular for portrait mode (f / 2.46);
- 8 megapixel ultra wide angle, 120 degrees, also used for macro mode (f / 2.2);
- 8-megapixel x5 telephoto lens (f / 3.4).
You can shoot up to 4K at 60 frames per second. The front photo sensor, meanwhile, benefits from a definition of 32 megapixels.
Matte finish, AMOLED display and Snapdragon 765G
Let’s also take a look at the design of the Vivo X51. This takes advantage of a screen pierced in the upper left corner to house the front photo sensor. On the back, in addition to the photo module, we can see a surface with a matte finish for a satin feel. Note, however, that it is not Gorilla Glass that we find here, but a competing solution called “Schott xtension”.
For the dimensions, count on 158.46 x 72.8 x 8.04 mm and a fairly light weight of 181.5 grams. The fingerprint reader is placed in the screen. For the rest of the datasheet, here are some things to remember:
- 6.56-inch, 90Hz, 2376 x 1080-pixel AMOLED display (Full HD +);
- Snapdragon 765G ;
- 8 Go de RAM LPDDR4x ;
- 256 GB UFS 2.1 storage space (not expandable);
- 4315 mAh battery;
- 33 W charger delivered in the box;
- compatible 5G.
Finally, the Vivo X51 benefits from a revised version of the FunTouchOS 10 interface (based on Android 10). To appeal to Western audiences, Vivo has greatly refined the user experience to offer something very similar to what can be found on Google Pixels. The design of the icons, a few additional options and the pre-installation of Facebook and Instagram betray the additions of the builder.
Also note the presence of an AK4377A homemade chip which guarantees hi-fi sound.
Vivo X51 price and availability in France
The Vivo X51 is announced in France at the official price of 799 euros. Faced with cheaper OnePlus 8T and Google Pixel 5, one can wonder if this price is not a little too high. The answer to this question will depend a lot on the quality of the gimbal, a real differentiating point of this product. We have started using the latter to offer you a complete test which will be published as soon as possible on Frandroid.
The Vivo X51 is scheduled for sale on October 30 in France. Note, however, that pre-orders begin October 21 and that they allow you to receive headphones. true wireless as a bonus.
