Xiaomi’s first foldable smartphone, the Mi Mix Fold, has just been officially presented. It has a lot of promise, especially in photos with a homemade Surge C1 chip and a liquid lens.
We were looking forward to it and here it is finally officially presented: the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is the brand’s first foldable smartphone. As always with these futuristic devices, the product is full of promise.
Note already that it adopts a design that is reminiscent of the one propelled by Samsung on its own range of folding smartphones like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Thus, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold folds inwards and unfolds like a book. The internal panel thus offers a format similar to that of a tablet with a diagonal of 8.01 inches.
This internal screen – the one that folds – also benefits from a QHD + definition and a resolution of 387 dpi. The boss of the brand, Lei Jun, promises that the viewing experience is excellent thanks to a Dolby Vision quality to which is added a care given to the audio with four on-board speakers certified by the specialist Harman Kardon, as on the Mi 11.
The businessman also highlights the interest of this Mi Mix Fold for productivity with a mode desktop which allows you to transform the smartphone into a PC with an interface with a desktop and a Windows-style start menu. Beyond that, Xiaomi also offers a feature facilitating the use of two applications simultaneously thanks to the split screen.
As for the external screen, it also benefits from an AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6.52 inches. Lei Jun highlights the narrowness of this slab which is like this ” easy to hold in one hand “. The definition here is 6.52 inches.
Sustainability side: the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold wishes to reassure its potential users. In this regard, the company has already bent the screen a million times and the internal hinge 200,000 times in its tests without noticing any breakage.
Inside the Mi Mix Fold, we find a 5020 mAh battery compatible with a fast charge of 67 W. In addition to that, we can also count on a Snapdragon 888. A well-known and very powerful SoC, but which does not isn’t the only attention grabbing chip in this phone.
A Surge C1 chip designed by Xiaomi indeed improves the photo experience.
Optical lens and smart chip
Before going into more detail in the strengths of this Surge C1 chip, let’s summarize the photo promises of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold. It has a triple photo module on the back:
- 108-megapixel main sensor;
- 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, 123 degrees;
- 8 megapixel x3 telephoto lens.
The telephoto lens houses an attractive technology that we had already talked about on Frandroid: a liquid lens. Thanks to this, a single sensor can be used both for zoom – up to x30 digitally – and for a very advanced macro mode equivalent to 80 mm which offers shots that are reminiscent of the microscope mode of the Oppo Find X3 Pro.
The other major asset in the photo is therefore the Surge C1 chip. The latter has been refined for several years internally at Xiaomi. Lei Jun evokes an efficiency of digital processing ” improved by 100% »As well as better focus quality on small objects and in low light. Automatic white balance is also optimized with this component.
